Engineers gather to consume food type items

In the inevitable manner of such things this evening’s rush event devolved from its intended lofty auspices of preforming science to a bunch of dudes eating pizza. And though the room stank of our cumulative odor (Stimpy) and though the jokes were terrible (JerBear) and offensive (McLovin) a good time was had by all. In this context, “All” excludes Chum, Zorro, and Spoodle but includes seven rushes and two alumni. In time chairs were abandoned in favor of closer positions to the pizza. We stood around a centerpiece of pizzas and trudged through the standard conversation of majors and housing until we came to recounting the misadventures and fortunes of brothers and alumni. Despite the great depth of maturity that inevitably results from the fraternity coming together, Yogi and Pablo both saw the sour end of our “Pay to the order of…” stamp. Similarly enjoyable was the discussion of convolutions led by self-proclaimed Ayatollah of the Internets, chief-ELEG, Kingpin.

Engineering Week

Last Week was Engineering Week at the University of Delaware. The Psi chapter participated by holding two events a liquid nitrogen ice cream and a non-newtonian fluid. The picture shows President Tompall Toone and Vice President Evan Vanarellli making ice cream with liquid nitrogen. Fellow Alumni Ramsey Hazbun attended the event.

We kicked off the spring semester by attending activities night in trabant. Matt "Bonez" Schiffer is the rush chair this semester and has planned exciting events including free food that will hopefully bring in many new members.

This past weekend a band of Psi brothers sought Walden-esque enlightenment from the rolling foothills and dense woods of Pennsylvania's French Creek State Park. There they made merriment of one another's company and enjoyed jokes and tales as can only be had in the bonds of close friendship. As night crept across the horizon they drew in closer to the warmth of the fire and there they sat shoulder to shoulder with their legs stretched nearer to the warmth of the flame. The fire was an unfortunately measly affair and it's dull, acrid smoke stung the eyes of those downwind. But it's warmth in the November night chill brought brothers closer still.

Now removed from the sickly glow of monitor light these engineers found renewed manhood in the winter woods. Hatchets were wielded, wood was burned, and men slept awkwardly close to one another in a desperate struggle for warmth.

Their discussion ranged from fetishes to leprosy and interspersed among their discourse were calls of "Flame on" and "Surprise anal sex!"

Grease and Porkchops are paired together in a epic fight to the death. Those of us who have known either might have seen this coming but now that each has said words that cannot be unsaid our anticipation is palpable. Who will win? Which bloody engineer will come out on top? These are questions that need answering. The terms of the smackdown will be set in a meeting of the alumni on Sunday (10/25/09) at 6:00pm.

The could also hug it out, but none of us want to see that happen.

Route 40 Now Sparkly Clean

The brothers of Psi chapter participated in their semesterly cleanup of good ol' route forty. Pledge Spoodle and alumnus Bodhi joined the brothers for what was, by all accounts, a warm, bright, sunny and cheerful mid-October morning. Of course, per usual, a disconcerting number of alcoholic containers littered the ground surrounding the Delaware State Police station. No dirty condoms were found. No brothers were 'antiqued'. Afterwards a round of wings at BWW was enjoyed by all - 25 wings each of Asian Zing, Hot BBQ, Teriyaki and Mango Habanero. Delicious.

Strangely, I had a difficult time finding pictures of BTom and Chum.

Loose on the Philly Streets

Psi chapter descended on Philadelphia this fine fall break. What beer there was and what virgins there were are, alas, no longer.

The names Pablo, Pancakes, McLovin, Zorro, Murder-Face, n00b, and Spoodle shall forever be etched in the torments of Philadelphians.

Sadly, I had a difficult time finding photos of BTom and Chum.

Bonez bests all in Bravo knockoff

In classic Bonez fashion - glamor, lights, bravado and broads - Bonez trounced the competition during the first round at ASA and Sigma Pi's Greek Runway event Wednesday night. The themed derivative of Bravo's hit show saw cowboys, construction workers, and scantily clad women grace the runway under the deep glare of lights and hundreds of eyes. Bonez was in rare form. Donning long blue overalls and lengthy green sleeves the lanky kid from Texas made women swoon and men question their sexuality. The charity event supported Delaware Special Olympics and Operation Homefront.

While Sigma Phi Delta's contributions to the event are notable, they are, however, overshadowed by the donations of much larger fraternities and sororities. It was most unfortunate that Luigi never saw round two.

Sigma Phi Delta competes in Mud Run at Frightland

The First Annual 5K Delaware Mud Run was held this past Sunday by the Leukemia Research Foundation at Frightland in Middletown, Delaware featuring a very creative variation of the typical 5K fundraiser that proved to have an immense popularity beyond anything expected by the event staff. Not only did participants compete in a 3.1 mile long-distance run, but also had to make their way through wet mud pits and muscle through a boot-camp style obstacle course. Brothers Bodhi, Flick, Totz, Tuss, Jer-Bear and McLovin made up 2 teams out of the 500 participating teams to represent SPD's athletic edge.

Shane Strikes Again!

Shane Bartus, Eastern Province Councilor, was seen at a Psi Chapter BBQ. Conspirators Yogi, Chum, Kmart, Bones, Pablo, JerBear, Bodhi, Pancakes, ZJ, Tuss, and Flick were in attendance. Additionally, two rushes joined us for the gathering. All enjoyed such food and beverage as might be expected of a college BBQ. However, to the delight of all, Tuss provided a well marinated and tender London Broil which was unfortunately complemented by Doritos and a brand of potato chips I can't quite recall. Nevertheless, the food was free for rushes and alumni alike.

The Webmaster would also like to point out that Pancakes' photo has finally been updated. He now appears to be a blind man attempting to handshake. Also, Chum's quote now more accurately reflects his disposition. What's more, the webmaster wishes it that the capable Historian would take it upon himself to maintain the blog.

Sigma Phi Delta beats Delaware Moms in Annual Plane Pull

The fraternity kicked off the fall 2009 semester by participating in the annual plane pull which supported Special Olympics and was hosted and presented by the Delaware Air National Guard. The plane was a C-130 Aircraft and weighed in at 100,000 lbs. On our first try we pulled the plane 12 feet in 10.31 sec and beat the Delaware moms and our second pull was a 9.51sec. Fellow Alumni members Bouchoux, Tejada, and Falco showed their support by attending the event. It is was the first event for the fraternity for fall 2009 and all the members showed up on time and participated. Hopefully we can maintain this perfect attendance through out the events for this semester.

RAMJAM & Election Tidings

Despite dreary weather, and the Swine Flu epidemic RAMJAM and the Fraternity elections both took place this past weekend.

RAMJAM was an unequivocal success, raising over $1000 to support Engineers Without Boarders. Many brothers were in attendance, and most supported the event by staffing a handful of the positions. Party attendees were treated to live performances from the Mad Sweet Pangs, Fat Daddy Has Been, lower case blues, Greg the Bear, Aaron Poole, El Smooth Ensemble, Orbit Shaker and 61 North. Proceeds from the barbecue went to support a local youth soccer team - the pulled pork sandwiches were phenomenal. It was an absolutely great time and on behalf of all the brothers, thank you Ramsey for putting this on.

Initiation proceeded smoothly

This past weekend the brotherhood initiated nine new members into our ranks. At no point were there any problems or glitches that would require the brothers to repeat part of the ceremony. It's hard to say who's responsible for ensuring that no glaring f*** ups occurred. Surely, every brother there played a part, but perhaps special credit should be given to brother Harbison.
